Skipper! Fast forward to the left wing embracing the right wing in one big hug around money, power, and attempted perpetual hegemony? With an increasingly tattered playbook in the face of reality: the global majority upholding democracy.. Prime example beside demolishing Ukraine to get Russia and committing genocide/supporting illegal occupation in Gaza and hot to attack China through Taiwan and the Philippines, another USA coup attempt in Venezuela after another win by the people's President Maduro. Isn't our 'leadership' melting like the Wicked Witch, dumbfounded as to how they could be overcome by a bucketful of good, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUWASdci9L8
Lolz not the sort of clip I expected to see... which made me all the more delighted.
One big hug around money and hegemony is a good way to put it. Next week's interview is with Mehrsa Baradaran, who's all too familiar with both dynamics, having studied neoliberalism and fled from US-abetted instability in Iran. I'll try to remember to ask about the bipartisan big hug. LMK if you'd have any other questions for her!
Does Baradaran see a foreign banking model she admires/would recommend shifting toward? Is there a meaningful distinction among stable pricing, interest rate; and inflation - and how precisely (or loosely, depending on its perceived needs) does the Fed apply those terms? The Fed website looks recently considerably changed, the dual mandate reference vanished and no mission statement. Only 'what we do' ??
Update, I found the dual mandate, tucked away with an ominous note, "The content below is for historical reference and discusses the FOMC’s dual mandate objectives and path for monetary policy under the previous framework."
This will be good no matter what, thanks! Definitely postal banking/public banking to resolve Louis DeJoy, Jerome Powell, and Fed private sector biases. And her ideas on shifting military aggression $$$$$$$$$$$ to real homeland security via public services/infrastructure?
Seems the RAND Corp. helped set the current bellicose scenario in 2019 - see contents titles alone, like 'Reduce Natural Gas Exports and Hinder Pipeline Expansions' and 'Provide Lethal Aid to Ukraine,' download here,
In a million ways the military is already the handservant of the MICIMATT even to incubating startups. But this just out, the attempted private sector knockout blow for never ending riches from public coffers to private pockets? (Ignoring public services, domestic infrastructure, debt/interest payments.) From the summary, p. vii, "Congress, DoD, and other agencies will need to rewrite laws and regulations to remove unnecessary barriers to adopting innovation, budgeting, and procurement. New authorities may be needed to promote jointness, strengthen the DoD workforce, and supplement the national security authorities of other agencies. Integration with allies requires dismantling barriers to information-sharing, coproduction, and exports." An "All Elements of National Power" Approach to Defense, "[Commission on NDS] members are non-governmental experts in national security. The Commission released its final report on July 29, 2024. RAND contributed analytic and administrative support." https://www.rand.org/nsrd/projects/NDS-commission.html
Baradaran and I didn't have time for all the questions but I snuck one in! I'm thinking about trying to bring someone on to discuss the military industrial machine... we'll see. Anyway, looking forward to your thoughts. See you in the comments in the new post!
Interesting she chose Japan, a US vassal. And I only remember her mentioning bullet trains - our public-private partnerships funnel a lot into private pockets from public coffers.. I was looking for China but then there are relatively few US economists who understand let alone appreciate the Chinese socialist economy for the people not the corporations.
Skipper, thanks for the opportunity to even sound off! As for MIC, probably any VIPS would do but I'd say one of the most carefully worded yet frank spokesmen is Ray McGovern. You could ask his reflections on this,
Skipper, think about an episode on JOINTNESS? It could be short.
#1 Question, the extent of on the ground face-to-face battlefield experience of each expert on JOINTNESS.
Score this for explanatory clarity and concision v. bureaucratic gobbledygook,
"Service-centric attitudes and perspectives are antithetical to jointness, and they are overcome through joint education and subsequent experience in joint assignments. Officers must become socialized to the different Service cultures if they are to develop the joint attitudes and perspectives necessary to operate collaboratively and interdependently. Joint acculturation, a central component of joint professional military education Phase II (JPME II), is the process by which officers are taught both the merits and the practice of working effectively within a joint context. This process seeks to transcend Service biases and prejudice by cultivating understanding and appreciation in officers for the cultures, competencies, and capabilities of other military Services and their members. It is also intended to ready officers for subsequent joint duty. Envisioned by GNA and established by law, joint acculturation is the prescribed way officers are called on to transcend Service-centric views and embrace a more unifying joint ethos."

And the national banks of the 1913 legislation, will Baradaran sum up the evolution/extinction?
