Welcome to Skipped History!

Good morning, subscriber!

And if you’re new here, welcome! (Seasoned viewers, ICYMI, the Times profiled Skipped History last weekend 🤯). Our squad has grown over the last week, so I figured I’d send a little rundown about the series, a sort of What to Expect When You’re Expecting Skipped History.

First things first

We send out videos on an every-other-week cadence, typically on Thursday mornings. This cadence allows us time to research, write, and produce new episodes. If you’d like even more history between episodes, check us out on Twitter!

A brief note from our Customer Service Team (aka me 💁🏻‍♂️)

To make sure you receive our emails (sometimes they go to spam), I’d suggest adding skippedhistory@substack.com to your contacts list.

Also, if you use Gmail and this message shows up in your ‘Promotions’ tab, I’d recommend dragging the message back to your ‘Primary’ inbox.

Season 3 will start in September!

Yup, we publish episodes in seasons! We’ll begin Season 3 with a couple of episodes on the Attica Prison Uprising in 1971 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of that stunning event. From there, we’ll explore how this senator from Utah…

…tried and succeeded in “terminating” Native American tribes in the 1950s. Sheesh.

In later episodes, we’ll investigate the explosion of the real estate industry in Florida, Koch Brother-related shenanigans in Oklahoma (can’t stop, won’t stop making fun of them), and more!

For current (and future!) paying subscribers

Thank you! Your support keeps SH in business. Without you, I couldn’t spend as much time reading, researching, writing, connecting with historians, or finding life-changing videos of Australian newscasters holding roosters:

Paying subscribers receive extra bits of skipped history, behind-the-scenes content, bloopers, and sneak peeks. Next week, they’ll learn about the legacy of the US occupation of Haiti from 1915-1934, which ties to the recent assassination of the Haitian president. You can sign up below!

What happens next?

Beginning with my next message to all subscribers in two weeks, I’ll recap seasons 1 and 2 so that everyone’s minds are bursting with anticipation in time for Season 3. If you’d like to get a head start, you can peep all episodes on YouTube:

You can also catch Season 2 (plus behind the scenes content) on Instagram:

That should do it for now. Thanks for tuning in! I am so excited to journey into the past together.
